Program for Early Care and Education
Warm and Inviting, Supportive, and One of a Kind...this is what makes the NAEYC Accredited Little Schoolhouse one of most unique pre-school educational programs in Union County. We are here to make your child’s first preschool experiences memorable. Everyone who is a part of our preschool program feels like family. We know that you will too!
Mission: Our Staff members are committed in providing the best quality education for children. We realize that we provide an important service to our families and the community. Our certified teachers and experienced staff believe that learning is a life long process. We believe that the care we provide directly affects the child’s development at the most critical time in their lives. We believe that we have a great influence in shaping who the child will become later on in their adolescent and adult life. We take this responsibility extremely seriously and we strive to continue to learn and grow so that we can continue to nurture your children in a warm, loving and peaceful environment
Program Description: Catholic Charities, MCG Little Schoolhouse is fully accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), the nation’s largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators dedicated to improving the quality of programs for young children.
MCG Little Schoolhouse welcomes children who are three years of age and reside in the city of Elizabeth. Open Monday through Friday, 10 hours a day, the program is designed to meet the needs of working parents. Our experienced staff strives in making each child’s first school learning experiences positive and enjoyable ones, in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our curriculum, The High/Scope Approach to learning emphasizes adult-child interaction, a carefully planned learning environment, and a plan-do-review process that supports initiative and growth towards independence in preschoolers. Teachers and children are active partners in shaping the educational experience. Additionally, the scholastic program component, provides language and literacy activities that support the development of oral language, phonological & print awareness, & alphabetical knowledge.
The MCG Little Schoolhouse is subcontracted with the Elizabeth Board of Education and the Department of Human Services, and provides a six-hour instructional day with a wrap around (before and after school) program.
MCG Little Schoolhouse also has a Snuggles Get Well Program. This unique program allows children who are mildly ill, to still come to school and relax comfortably in our Snuggles room away from the busy classroom, under the care of our Snuggles para-professional. In the Snuggles program, parents could feel confident that their child is receiving top quality care while meeting employment obligations.
Staff at the MCG Little Schoolhouse is trained in First Aid and is CPR-certified.
